Liverpool have rejected a bid from Newcastle United to take Andy Carroll on loan until the end of the season.
Newcastle offered to pay part of striker Carroll's £80,000-a-week wages, with a view to a permanent deal at a specified price next summer.
Liverpool immediately rejected the proposal and the player is believed to be determined to stay at Anfield to prove himself.
