Ablett hails Spearing

By Al Campbell
Tuesday, 27th March 2007
Gary Ablett sang the praises of Jay Spearing after his performance for the reserves last night.
Spearing gave a man of the match performance in the centre of midfield against Newcastle last night and his all round display earned him the praise of Gary Ablett.

"Jay did really well and we must remember he played the full 90 minutes on Saturday for the under-18s, so that shows you how well he did," the reserve team coach told the club's official website.

"I thought we made hard work of it in the first 25 minutes of the game but we then started to pass the ball well and put them under a lot of pressure.

"We created a lot of chances towards the end of the first half but we didn't put them away which has been typical of our season so far really.

"We said to the boys at half-time there was only one team who was going to win this game and that would be us. We kept up the pressure and moved the ball into wide areas quickly in the second half and scored three good goals.

"It's a testament to the work from our fitness coach Antonio Gomez that we scored the three goals in the final 15 minutes of the game. Antonio has done a great job with the players."
