Masch backs Torres

By Al Campbell
Tuesday, 10th July 2007
Javier Mascherano has backed Fernando Torres to be a big success at Anfield.
The Argentinian midfielder, currently on international duty at the Copa America, believes Liverpool's new £20m signing will quickly adapt to life in the Premiership.

"Fernando's arrival will be very positive. He will complement the great team we already have in place very well. He is a brilliant player," said Mascherano.

"We all know him from his games with Atletico Madrid and Spain and I think he will improve the quality of the team.

"He will be useful to create chances, he will make us more dangerous in attack and I'm sure that he will score quite often.

"I don't think he'll have any issues or problems adapting to our way of playing football.

"At Liverpool, we always want to achieve more and more. Last season we were so close to glory and the aim now is to win a major trophy. We will work hard for that, and I hope we get it.

"I have great confidence in the team, and even more so because I know how hard everyone is working to make it happen."
