Michael Owen will have extra incentive to find the net against Auxerre as he stands on the brink of another footballing record.
Owen is already the youngest player to score for England in a World Cup and his record of nineteen international goals has seen him overtake Roger Hunt as the leading Liverpool player in the England goal-scoring lists. The Reds forward can lay claim to another prestigous record if he scores against Auxerre this Thursday. If he gets on the score-sheet he will equal Ian Rush's all-time Liverpool record of 20 goals in Europe.
Whilst hitting the target has been difficult enough for Owen in recent weeks it would take a brave man to bet against him shattering another famous record in France this week.
