United to hijack Torres move?

Manchester United are also in the chase for Liverpool target Fernando Torres.
United have also been long time fans of the Athletico Madrid striker and are willing to pay the £27m that will activate Torres' get-out clause in his contract. Liverpool don't want to pay any more than £24m.

Torres has plenty of friends at Anfield however, and has indicated he would prefer a move to Liverpool.
